Thoughts ahead of The ROC Wales

A few reflections ahead of my first triathlon of the season...

I’m excited to be competing in The ROC Wales this weekend. It prompted me to look back on my triathlon journey over the last few years and I realised that as a person with trauma in my background, while I have always loved sports, I have tended to gravitate to individual sports.

I also realised I’m missing one of the key benefits of team sports, i.e. the social and collaboration. I see my son who also has trauma from his early life, following his passion for football and facing difficulties with the team aspects, yet persevering nonetheless. What a brave little soul he is.

Learning from him, I think one of my missions from now on should be to get more connected with other triathletes. The sense of camaraderie and connection is one of the best things about races. Perhaps I should seek a bit more connection in day to day training.

If you’re into running, biking or swimming, let’s get connected and maybe hook up for some training sessions sometime.

I will let you know how the race goes. In the meantime, enjoy the great weather coming up this weekend. And make sure to let your loved ones know what they mean to you.
